Courses Available

RYA Level 1
Learn the basics to operating a powerboat. The RYA Level One course is an introduction to boating and is best viewed as a ‘taster’ or a ‘competent crew’ course. it gives those attending a good grounding in the basics plus spends time on the safety aspects of boating too. The vast majority of Level 1 courses that we run are for young children as in our experience adults are best served by starting with the Powerboat Level 2 course. If though there are two of you we’re always happy to schedule a date to suit. For a parent attending with a young child (or two) the Level 1 course can be a great day afloat. instruction and theory. Whilst at first glance the syllabus appears very similar to the level one course the extra time available makes a real difference to the depth in which subjects are covered and therefore the amount a student can learn.
Course Duration 1 day from 9am to 5pm (may finish about 4pm depending on whether children on the course are getting tired.)
Instructor – Student Ratio 3 students to 1 Instructor and boat. We often run 2-3 boats per course the benefit being you get to use different boats and benefit from the interaction with other students. You often will find that you learn as much from watching another student execute a manoeuvre as you do from doing it yourself.
Minimum Age For Level 1 the minimum age is 8 and no prior boating experience is necessary.
Our Craft We use either our 7.5m Atlantic 75 for this course.
Key Course Details Duration: 1 Day Time: 9am to 5pm Group Size: 3 per boat Min Age: From 8 Price: €190 - 200
RYA Level 2
Progress to operating your own boat safely along the West Cork CoastlineThe RYA Level Two course is our most popular course and the two days over which it is run gives plenty of time for both practical instruction and theory. Whilst at first glance the syllabus appears very similar to the level one course the extra time available makes a real difference to the depth in which subjects are covered and therefore the amount a student can learn.
Prior Experience No prior boating experience is necessary. The course equally suits those new to boating and those who have been boating for years. Most people take Level 2 and bypass Level 1. You do not need to already have Level 1 before you take Level 2.
Course Duration: 2 days from 9am to 5pm.

Minimum Experience We are generally happy for a child over 12 to attend a course with their parent/guardian on our boats at any time – please call to discuss. Children over 16 can attend a normal course at any time but we must have the parent/guardian’s specific permission – please call to discuss. If you want a child of under 16 to attend on their own then they must attend one of our dedicated Children’s Courses see the Children’s Courses section

What our visitors say
Testimonials
The most memorable experience

We sailed with John and had one of the most memorable experiences. John shared his local knowledge and expertise with us and showed how to operate a sailboat safely. We learnt about wind, weather and tides. The best part was seeing the wildlife in silence, we could hear the whales and dolphins breathing and the noise the wild birds made. It was truly a magical experience that we will never forget.

The diving, wildlife and the countryside are all top quality

Baltimore Diving is a family-run business in Co Cork, Ireland. I have been diving for 30 years and found the owner/skipper to be one of the very best. John Kearney leads the Co Cork Underwater Search and Rescue team and also is cox on the local lifeboat, so be assured you are diving with someone who knows what he is doing. John goes out of his way to make sure you have a great holiday. The diving, wildlife and the countryside are all top quality. Chorley BSAC highly recommends John and Baltimore Diving to our fellow divers.

The Best diving in southwest Ireland

I have worked with John Kearney and the Baltimore Diving setup in both a professional and personal manner over many years and I have to say that John is one of the most knowledgeable and easygoing dive providers I have ever encountered. A fantastic setup with some of the best diving in southwest Ireland on his doorstep assuring a great diving experience whatever the weather allows. I cannot recommend him highly enough and we will certainly be using Baltimore Diving again in the future.

Fantastic Diving Experience

We have had many repeat visits to Baltimore Diving Centre. John goes above and beyond in making sure that our dives are safe and enjoyable. His local knowledge, expertise, and well-maintained boats and equipment all contribute to a fantastic diving experience. Highly recommended.
